Dear friend,

I had a lovely conversation with a paid subscriber of Kindred Spirits last week, and something stood out to me: That this newsletter, appreciably, doesn’t talk about career or technology or AI or design or anything related to work, but about being human. I was relieved to hear that because all I want to do with this newsletter is gently stay in touch with our humanity, drive home that our issues are not ours alone, and remind us that we can lean on each other (and our predecessors from centuries ago) for advice and solace. I hope the rest of you feel similarly, too.

In today’s dispatch, we meander through Rick Rubin’s writing, Haruki Murakami’s advice for opening windows into souls, and what it means to be a gardener and a grower of life in a world that simply does not care.
